TALL SHIPS,SUMMERSIDE,PEI, 2007

Tall ships visiting Summerside Harbour in August 2007.

A few tall ships made a stop here in Summerside in early August 2007. For once the city got it right as it was a very popular event with a hugh amount of people who came to see them. I watched the Bluenose enter the harbour but was disappointed as it lowered its sails and entered under engine power. The Canadian navy sent two frigates to visit including the HMCS Summerside which is named after our city.

I am going to try to find time to keep this blog up to date as their is much beauty to be found here on PEI of which I can say I am a proud resident of this beautiful province.

LOBSTER CARNIVAL.

A float from the annual lobster carnival parade held in mid july here in Summerside, P.E.I.
The lobster carnival is held here in S'side mid July to honor one of our most famous exports. It is 7 days of fun and excitement for locals and tourists alike. Most communities here on PEI hold some sort of event every summer.
Kensington has the Harvest Festival, O'Leary has the potato blossom festival, Charlottetown has the oldest and best known one called Old Home Week. Each one has a theme they follow, lots of home grown music, dancing, and local talent.
Old home week also has 10 days of harness racing with both afternoon and evening harness racing with parimutuel betting. The week ends with the Gold Cup and Saucer race which is one of the best racing spectules in North America.
For a fun filled time you would not find anymore to do anywhere than here on PEI. If you like making new friends, enjoying local talent like singing and dancing. Trying local food, enjoying the best seafood anywhere and just plain relaxing come visit us on this wonderful place I am so proud to call home.
Till Next time, take care.

JAKE.

This is a picture of JAKE, the best looking one eyed cat in all of Canada and the World. Jake died one year ago today & he is still missed. It is unreal how pets can become so loved & such a part of your world. We did not pick Jake (in fact I didn't want to keep him because you miss them so much if something happens to them) he showed up on our door step in early Dec half starved & Mary would put out food for him but he would not come in. This arrangement went on untill Jan 1, we believe 1988 when we passed his test & he came in & never left until a year ago when he left us for good. I am retired & spend a lot of time home but I was never alone as long as Jake was here, if I was watching TV he would be on the arm of the couch or curled up beside me. I still miss him. Pets are wonderful to have as no matter how bad your day was or what you might do wrong they still love you & are always there for you. Only pet owerns will understand when I say that I told Jake a lot of stories over the years & he would always listed. Nice to talk about your problems with someone who cares. Could go on for days about Jake but I will just say in closing that we had the best pet anyone could ever ask for & thank God for the way too short a time we spent with him. Rest In Peace Jake. Till next time. Lew

Here is a picture of a spider web I took. I like this picture as they are hard to take.
The weather for the past 18 days has with the wind chill been between -25c to -35c, without the wind chill between -15c to -25c. After the warmest January on record it has been a wake-up call. Will be nice to see spring with all its beauty and new growth.
Not much more to write about, oh yeah I went to a benifit night for one of my neighbors. They sold lunches, tickets on draws, and had an auction on donated goods. It was very successful as the auction made over $11,000.00 & all together the grand total presented to the family was just a little over $22,ooo,00. A great boost to help the family with their needs, the man has been in hospital for over 4 months & is paralized.

SUMMERSIDE. P.E.I. CANADA

Welcome sign at entrance to S'side. P.E.I.
Soldier standing guard over memorial park in S'side.
I live in S'side PEI which is the 2'nd largest city in PEI. PEI has only 2 cities and with a population just over 14,000 it is a very small city. S'side is the shopping area for the western part of the province and as such does have more shopping than most areas of our size.
Recreration plays a big part in our city & we are just putting the final touches on a $40,000,000. wellness center. Just how we will ever pay for it is anyones guess but let us enjoy it as we now have it. Lots more I have to say about our fine city but that will wait for a later date.
Till next time, take care;
Lew.

Dunk River in Autumn, Great trout fishing River. Confederation Bridge connecting the rest of the World to P.E.I. Canada. This is my first entry on a new blog I have called P.E.I. is Pretty Every Inch. I will post pictures of P.E.I. with every entry to prove why I choose this name. I like to say that God may not live in my neighbourhood but it is not a long distance call to get him on the phone. I have pictures of PEI I have taken in all 4 seasons which I shall post for your viewing. PEI is Pretty Every Inch is also the name of a song wrote & sung by Island musican Bob Doyle, hopefully I will be able to add the music to this song & a lot others by island musicians to this BLOG. PEI is blessed with many good musicians, I am trying to collect as much of the music as I can, most of what I have has been collected from yard sale & flee markets. It is very hard to get especially the older cassettes as due to costs & small market most were only done in small numbers. If you have any or know where I can beg, borrow, steal, or buy any please let me know as a lot of this music by some of our past musicians is being lost forever. More on Island music in a later entry. So long for now as I have some things to do but hope to have at least 2 or 3 entries a week from now on. Take care till next time. Lew.
